South West TECs strengthen regional collaboration to boost skills and industry impact.

Representatives from Technical Excellence Colleges (TECs) across the South West recently came together to explore opportunities for closer collaboration, share delivery plans and discuss how they can maximise their collective impact on the region's skills system.
Bringing together technical excellence across the South West.
The meeting brought together TEC leaders and representatives from across the South West, creating a valuable opportunity to identify shared priorities, exchange best practice and explore how the network can work more effectively together to support employers, learners and regional economic growth.
A key outcome of the session was the agreement to establish a formal regional working group. The group will meet quarterly and be hosted by TEC colleges across the South West, providing a dedicated forum for collaboration, knowledge sharing and the alignment of activity across the network.
The South West is home to six TECs, each offering specialist expertise in key sectors that are critical to the region's future prosperity. By strengthening collaboration between these centres of excellence, the network aims to make it easier for industry partners to access expertise, engage with skills development initiatives and respond to emerging workforce challenges.
Supporting major projects through collaboration.
Major projects across the region, including those linked to defence and clean energy, require skills and expertise that span multiple technical disciplines represented by several of our TECs. By working together, TECs can support a more coordinated approach to skills development, helping to ensure the South West has the talent pipeline needed to deliver these nationally significant projects.
The group also agreed to coordinate events and communications activity where possible, making it simpler for employers, stakeholders and partners to engage with the collective expertise available across the TEC network.
Richard Brine, Programme Manager for South West CTEC, said:
"It is a privilege to work in the South West, which is home to no fewer than six Technical Excellence Colleges. Collaboration between these centres of excellence, working closely with public and private sector partners, brings huge economic potential for our region.
Major projects across the South West, including those related to defence and clean energy, require skills that sit within the remit of several of our TECs. By working together and coordinating our activities, we can make it easier for industry to connect with the expertise it needs while strengthening the region's skills system for the future."
Looking ahead: strengthening skills across the South West.
The meeting highlighted a strong shared commitment to partnership working and demonstrated the opportunities that can be created when colleges come together around common goals. The newly established working group will continue to build on this momentum, ensuring TECs across the South West remain connected, collaborative and focused on delivering maximum impact for learners, employers and the wider economy.
As the TEC network continues to grow and evolve, this collaborative approach will play an important role in supporting skills development and helping the South West respond to future workforce needs.
